Santuario Giubilare delle Sette Chiese (Via Sette Chiese). Beginning at the tourist information center, follow Via Santuario from the base of the hill to Via Sette Chiese. Pass through the Porta Romana (also known as Porta Santa), which is the entrance gate to the sacred sanctuary of seven churches built in 1651. The noble Venetian Duodo family commissioned Vincenzo Scamozzi to build these churches between 1605 and 1615, and asked Pope Paolo V to consider a pilgrimage to these seven churches as equivalent to a pilgrimage to Rome’s seven basilicas (look for the inscription Romanis basilicas pares, referring to its connection with Rome). After passing through the porta, follow the hill toward the six small pilgrim churches on the left that contain works by Jacopo Palma the Younger and Giovanni Carlo Loth. Just past the sixth church is the large Villa Duodo from the early 1600s designed by Scamozzi and the Church of San Giorgio. This church contains many relics and is the site of a pilgrimage each Valentine’s Day. The walk to the final church takes approximately 20 minutes and is easily accessible.
